first seal; video/action for new bark.
[ This post could take place anywhere. There's no defining shot of a background that's instantly defining - just trees, and sky, and Rin. If it weren't for the music - New Bark theme, easily recognizable to anyone who knows their tunes - it would be hard to pin down where she was. Rin herself looks native for a given value of native, too. She's swapped out to the extra set of clothing in her pack - "lass" - and instead of a hitai-ate, there's a plain blue headband. There's also a smile, if a cautious one. These things seem pretty harmless so far, and there doesn't seem to be any benefit from not using it, so. ]
Hi! So, to preface this, let me say I did read the guides given to me at the start of this. [ That's brisk and matter-of-fact more than anything else. And Rin had. She'd done that first thing, because information was key. And she's decided against asking where she is, since...well, she's scanned plenty of those entries already, and apparently the answers are "Johto", "Pokemon", and "multiple worlds", which she's not sure what to do with. ] But what I'm most interested in wasn't really covered there. The warnings about berries were helpful, but...
[ Not really the most complete informational packet, and she'd definitely like more to rely on, if at all possible. It was her job to know this sort of thing, if she was going to be responsible for the pink thing following her around. "This sort of thing" being... ] Does anyone have any tips on what other poisonous substances we might encounter here? Or any pointers on keeping your Pokemon healthy? I do plan to learn what I can from the centers - but I'm a bit between places right now, so it's not really practical.
[ There's a little sigh. ] I am trained in first aid and medicine, and I presume a lot of it will work on them, but I'm not...entirely sure how the different physiologys might change how that works. So - I'm all ears. And thanks in advance.
...And if anyone has any suggestions as to places that might be good to visit, that'd be fine, too. [ Apparently "home" isn't an option, so...some sort of direction might be nice, rather than her current lack of it. ]

video;
[ She seriously doubts it, though. Even if she's bored, she's alive, and there doesn't appear to be a war, although she's suspicious about that still. ] But I think probably not, at the risk of being mildly optimistic.
[ Does it help that she's like thirteen at the most, Lady? ]
It's nice to meet you, too, Yagyuu-san. Can I ask how long you've been here? If you're warning me about tedium, I have to guess that it's been a while...
video;
[Oh, no, even worse, he's an older man. Girl step back ok.]
It'll be two years on Thursday. Suffice to say, I'm not particularly looking forward to it.
video;
[ Lady, please. She's hung up on someone who isn't even here. ...Not that the pokemon would now this. ]
Then I'll offer you my condolences instead of congratulations. ...And my thanks. For answering the questions. It's helpful, really.
video;
What is this girl, thirteen? Man, fuck thirteen-year-olds, they're nothing but trouble. B|]
I expect you'll be getting a lot of help in the near future; it's something of a tradition to "welcome" newcomers with a barrage of information — again, generally because the majority of them fail to read the literature first. That said, if there's anything else you're interested in having answered, I have some time to spare and I don't mind attempting to oblige you.
video;
...I can't think of anything else specific I need to know. Any tips you have on Pokemon are welcome, but...I think most of my major questions have been answered. At least, those that have answers to be had. I know where I am, and I know that there are certain limits imposed on people, and I know the locations of a few people I'd want to find...
The rest I think I can learn as I go, but I'd really like any advice from a senior. [ She's referring to his time spent here, not his age. ] Any problems you might have run into, maybe, if you don't mind sharing the experiences.
video;
[Something his own juniors once learned the hard way. Many times over.]
As for Pokemon tips, which of them did you start with?
video;
...She's unconsciously sticking to a more respectful tone, although he's not technically her senior in any official way. ]
I started with an Audino. Konoka. [ He didn't ask for the name, but he gets it anyway. ]
video;
maleelders.]Ah. That's rather unsurprising, considering you mentioned you're trained in first aid; Audino are traditionally considered to be natural caretakers. Many of the nurses at the Pokemon centers here have one.
That said, that's a Normal-type, which comes with the benefit of being able to learn a wide variety of more specialized moves, once you have the ability to teach them to it. You'll want to branch out into something slightly more type-specialized sooner or later, though; most Pokemon have natural resistances that can be advantageous if deployed strategically.
video;
Are Pokemon often matched to their trainers in such a manner, then? [ If it's unsurprising, it has to be usual, right?
And okay, strategy. He already had her full attention, but this is battle-useful stuff, and even though she's a medic and prefers to keep off the front lines in order to support the team, Rin feels more comfortable having information on how to fight if an when she has to do so.
Types and natural resistances...it sounds a little bit like chakra types, and how some beat others. ]
Specialized moves? Those would be... [ calling up the guides info mentally. ] TMs and HMs, wasn't it? [ And thinking more about resistances... ] What types have an advantage against Normal-types?
video;
[...Damn. A smart girl. Now this is intriguing.]
Fighting-types have an advantage against Normal-types; there's a Gym Leader who specializes in that particular type, but you won't encounter him for quite some time — more than enough to add an advantageous member to your roster to contend with him.
video;
[ That's said a touch wryly. It's a little like being in a bingo book, but without doing anything to earn it. She feels exposed. ]
So I should make certain to cultivate a type strong against fighting-types - if I continue to collect normal-types. [ Duly noted and added to her mental map of the world of Pokemon. ] ...So, balance is probably key, in order to not be beaten by one or two Pokemon who happen to have the advantage over you type-wise.
video;
Unless, of course, you happen to make friends with a few breeders who can supply you with useful eggs along the way.
video;
Are you a breeder, Yagyuu-san? [ She's not asking if they're friends, just now. ]
video;
Though now that you bring it up, I admit I've just had a situation with a brood of eggs quite recently — within a day or two, in fact — and that's left me once again with the charge of finding good homes for them. I don't suppose you'd be amenable to the thought of letting me make you a gift of one of them? In the interest of beginning the process of rounding out your roster in a brisk and efficient manner, naturally.
video;
I think it'd be ridiculous of me to say no to such a generous offer. Especially given it's just Konoka and I so far. I can promise you that anyone or anything left in my charge will be in good hands.
[ she won't let anyone die on her watch ever again.
...not that this is a thing in Pokemon land. ]
Besides, I'm a fan of brisk efficiency. [ In moderation. ]
video;
In that case, the only thing I'll ask in return is that you keep me apprised of its development every so often. I'll be interested to hear what you think of its...ah, rather unique capabilities.
When you reach Cherrygrove City, go to the Pokemon Center there and ask the nurse on duty to show you how to access the box in your PC. You'll find the egg there.
video;
Of course; that won't be any problem at all. [ hope you like reports, Yagyuu. ...Though "unique capabilities" worries her a bit. ] And by that do you mean specialized moves?
Got it! Thank you, Yagyuu-san; it shouldn't take us too long to get there, since everyone seems eager to get a move on. [ "Everyone" is an older ninja who happens to be the future Godaime Hokage, and a replica nearer Rin's age than she isn't. ]
video;
I mean specialized moves, type, inherent ability, and also capacity to learn others. It's a Water-type, if you're curious, which tends to be a very "balanced" type in and of itself — it has its strengths both offensively and defensively, and the flaws that it does have can generally be compensated for without too much difficulty. I think you'll find it an interesting experience.
video;
An "interesting experience"? [ Rin's briefly wondering if she ought to be worried...but she thinks she can probably handle it. Or, if nothing else, she will figure out how to handle it. ] ...Got it. I'll definitely welcome learning more about all this, and sometimes the best way to learn is via experience.
